Alen Vegi Kalamar, our Senior Lead Engineer, has been with Comtrade Gaming since his student days and has grown within the company over the years. Alongside his professional responsibilities, Alen is also pursuing a doctoral degree and brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the team.
Your journey with Comtrade Gaming began during your studies. How has your role evolved from a student intern to a Senior Lead Engineer?
My journey with Comtrade Gaming began during my studies when I joined the team to gain professional experience. Over time, I progressed through various roles, from hands-on technical work to leading projects. A pivotal moment was the reorganization of the team, which allowed me to take on more responsibility and leadership. Over time, the team grew, and I transitioned into my current role as Senior Lead Engineer, where I oversee a talented group of individuals, guiding the team through challenges and successes.
Can you tell us more about your work with the R&D team and your role in shaping its development?
After a key team reorganization, I became heavily involved in the backend development of our product. My contributions include improving functionalities, mentoring new team members, and working on integrations with various systems. I help ensure our processes are efficient, while also working closely with customers to solve issues. Leading the team, I focus on ensuring that everything runs smoothly and that we continue to deliver quality results.
You’ve managed to balance a full-time role with your doctoral studies. How do you manage these responsibilities, and what motivates you in both areas?
Balancing my full-time role and doctoral studies is challenging but rewarding. I stay organized, set clear goals, and receive tremendous support from my partner. My role at Comtrade Gaming keeps me engaged with exciting projects, while my doctoral studies allow me to explore long-term challenges in a more structured way. Together, these experiences complement each other and help me grow professionally and personally.
How do your experiences at Comtrade Gaming complement your academic journey? Do these two paths intersect in interesting ways?
My work at Comtrade Gaming and my academic studies complement each other in significant ways. The problem-solving and leadership skills I’ve gained from my work directly benefit my academic work, and vice versa. Having hands-on experience in industry has allowed me to bring a practical perspective to my academic projects, and I find that both paths enrich each other, allowing me to bring unique insights to both.
